Princess Video is a song about going to therapy, about Anne Marie (bass) being the cutie behind the counter at her Dad’s video store, and about the sitcoms and legal dramas that shaped us. We were inspired by the opening credits & theme songs from shows like Ally McBeal, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, That’s So Raven & That Girl. Everyone’s the main character of their own life right? So sometimes we’d find ourselves walking down the street with our own personal OC mixtape playing in our heads, and some rough memory would intrude. We are big fans of therapy, and part of therapy for us was figuring out what caused these memories to loop & disrupt. Something we got out of it was learning to go easier on ourselves when we remember the past & undo shame. Princess Video is about being gentle with yourself as you’re working out different lenses to see your life through, getting through stuck points rooted in trauma at your own pace, and writing your own theme song cuz it’s your own damn show!
